ALMOST all 6,400 government department internal publications will be closed by the end of the year, authorities have said.
The move is aimed at cutting unnecessary expense and reducing waste.
'Among the 6,400 internal publications, only about 300 have more than 60,000 readers,' an official of the State Press and Publications Administration said.

The 300 surviving titles would be relaunched as public circulation publications, he said.
'All the remaining publications will be closed by January 1 next year,' he said.

Almost all government branches have their own internal publications on topics such as agriculture, chemistry, literature, mining and fishing. They are not allowed to be sold to the public or accept advertising.
