The election lineup for The Frontier remained uncertain yesterday, depending on whether ousted legislator Leung Yiu-chung was prepared to change his mind about running for a different grouping.

Frontier member Mr Leung appeared to be softening his stance on contesting New Territories West for the Neighbourhood and Workers' Service Centre in May.

His decision to reconsider came after lobbying led by convenor Emily Lau Wai-hing who would like Mr Leung to pair up with her in New Territories East.

A row between Mr Leung and ousted legislator and unionist Lee Cheuk-yan erupted after it emerged that the grouping had persuaded Mr Lee to run in New Territories West, where Mr Leung's community powerbase is situated. Mr Leung was apparently unhappy that Mr Lee's plan would mean he would face a poorer chance of winning a seat in the constituency.

'Up to this minute, my former decision still holds true. But I will reconsider the matter again,' Mr Leung said.

He said: '[The] decision is not intended to confront The Frontier or Lee, but we need to think about the Neighbourhood and Workers' Service Centre as well as my own developments.' 'I've co-operated with Lee on frontline labour activities for more than 10 years . . . the bickering between us, as it appears, is a result of this unfair and unjust electoral system,' he added.
