Flamboyant local jockey Rambo Tse Wai-ho is set to rebuild his colourful career in Macau.

Tse, hardly out of the news during his riding career in Hong Kong, is expected to resume racing in the Portuguese-administered enclave within the next week or two.

It is understood that not everyone in the MJC was in favour of licensing Rambo, not wanting Taipa to be seen as a haven for Hong Kong rejects, given the quality of the riders they have there now, such as the legendary Australian Mick Dittman, world-class Irishmen John Egan and Ray Cochrane, South Australian champion Steven Arnold, Macau champion John Didham and Asia's finest home-grown talent, Peter Lao.

But an informed source confirmed yesterday: 'Tse Wai-ho will be riding in Macau and could start within the next couple of weeks. The approval of his licence is imminent.' Tse was disqualified from riding in Hong Kong for nine months following a local riders' race at Happy Valley early last season when he rode Millions Joy into third behind Laureate.

The same contest also saw the inexperienced Andy Ko sitting motionless from start to finish on Gold Capture who ran sixth.

Ko came in for a lengthy ban and the local riders' races were later cancelled entirely.

Tse was adjudged to have stopped Millions Joy from running on his merits, though many observers felt this to be a very harsh decision.
