A limping Brett Doyle will take things easy again today but is optimistic that he will fulfil his riding engagements at Happy Valley tomorrow night in the final meeting before the Lunar New Year break.

Doyle turned up at trackwork yesterday following his barrier mishap with fractious My Friends Say and conferred at length with retaining trainer Andy Leung Ting-wah.

The lightweight English ace was later declared for five rides on the seven-race night card. He said: 'When My Friends Say went up and I was flipped backwards, the leg, just above the ankle, was caught. It was sore and I am still feeling it.

'But I am very hopeful that I will be able to ride on Wednesday and that's why I was declared after talking it over with Andy.

'It's still bruised and a bit painful but nothing is broken and it is only a question of the bruising going down. I'm pretty confident that by the time Wednesday comes around I will be fine,' said Doyle, whose success in Hong Kong has almost been equalled by his misadventures.

He was involved in the sensational double-fall with Kieren Fallon when riding Flying Horse on New Year's Day. Prior to that, he had taken a hefty kick in the back - he was saved by his jockey's protector - when Master Eagle knuckled over in a trial.
