The mainland plans to launch European-made telecommunications satellite Sinosat-1 in the near future, officials and state media said yesterday. 'We do not know the date, but it will be launched within this year,' an official of the China Aerospace Corp, said. Sinosat-1, owned by Sino-European joint-venture Sinosat Communication Co, was built by France's Aerospatiale, the China News Service said. The agency said the satellite would be launched in the 'near future'. The satellite would provide telephone, fax, television and data transmission services to the mainland and the Asia-Pacific region.
