Former Hong Kong ace Mark McMahon and Australian Steve Glasson reached the quarter-finals of the 1998 World Indoor Pairs Championship after defeating English champions Alan Springell and Gary Grace in straight sets. McMahon, presently living and working in Australia, played in the lead position and simply outclassed his opponent in a contest lasting just 75 minutes. McMahon and Glasson, seeded eighth, dominated from start to finish on their way a 7-1, 7-3, 7-1 win. The opening set was finished within four ends, with McMahon and Glasson taking a 3-1 lead before counting a maximum four to reach the seven-shot mark. In the second set, the duo fought back from 3-1 down before notching six shots in three ends to win 7-3. McMahon and Glasson could even afford the luxury of losing the opening end of the third set before counting three and four to ease through to the last eight of the competition.
