A freshened-up Po On Power could prove the answer to a tricky fourth event at Happy Valley tonight as local racing prepares for a 10-day break before the big Lunar New Year meeting.

Favourites obliged in a number of races at Sha Tin on Sunday but shocks are frequently the order of the night at the Valley and it is safe to say that in this interesting Class Three event over 1,650 metres there are probably half a dozen chances.

It would not be advisable to take short odds about anything in this 12-strong field and that includes the selection.

Po On Power does like the Valley and that is always a major plus-factor as the city track can be decidedly difficult for horses which do not adapt to the turns and gradients of the course. Trainer John Moore has had success with Po On Power over longer than 1,650 metres and that is the main worry.

Against that, however, the horse does like to race on the pace and he is unlikely to be outgunned early.

Douglas Whyte, whose Sunday treble took him back to the top of the table with compatriot Basil Marcus, again partners the Moore stayer as he did last time when Tea For You swept down the outside to score readily.
