Chief Secretary for Administration Anson Chan Fang On-sang has left room for speculation on whether she will stand for Chief Executive in 2002. 'I don't wish to anticipate whatever decision I might or might not make. 'Far be it for me to pre-empt Chief Executive Mr Tung's own decision of whether he will or not run for a second term,' she told business and community leaders in Toronto. 'All I would say for myself, in my entire 36 years of public service, I have never particularly planned my own career . . . I've moved to where I'm told to move. And it's always been a very challenging and, in many respects, a very satisfying job wherever I've been posted.' Mrs Chan is 60 in 2000, the usual retirement age for civil servants. In an interview published yesterday, Mr Tung Chee-hwa said it was too early to talk about replacing Mrs Chan.
