I refer to I Yip's letter, 'Lung Cheung Road danger', about the road's condition (South China Morning Post, January 8).

The section of the road is being rebuilt under the Lung Cheung Road and Ching Cheung Road Improvements project, and is expected to be finished by March. The roadworks are being undertaken on the section between Tai Po Road and Lion Rock Tunnel Road.

To cope with heavy traffic, at least two traffic lanes in each direction are maintained at all times to minimise traffic disruption.

The roadworks are being carried out on a lane-by-lane basis and, occasionally, with contra-flow traffic arrangements. All excavations are properly cordoned off from moving traffic.

As well, advance warning signs are displayed to alert drivers to the temporary diversions.

The temporary traffic arrangements, including the alignment of the detours, the warning signs and road markings, have the approval of the Transport Department and traffic police to ensure road safety.
