Hang Seng Bank expects slower growth in its credit-card business and higher levels of bad debt this year as a result of Asia's economic crisis. Credit-card centre chief William Leung Wing-cheung said the bank had revised its forecast for Hong Kong's economic growth this year from 5.5 per cent to 4 per cent. He said growth in credit-card business would suffer accordingly and that bad-debt levels would rise. Mr Leung's view concurred with that of MasterCard International's Hong Kong market manager Rosaline Tam Yuk-ling. Ms Tam said it was revising its credit-card growth forecast to below 20 per cent this year. The bank yesterday launched a World Cup MasterCard that offers cardholders the chance to enter a lucky draw and win a flight to France for the tournament.
