Six holidaymakers were injured when they fell into a lake after a crowded podium collapsed at the World Pavilion theme park near Guangzhou. Saturday's accident happened as a group performed a Thai dance on the platform, which had been built over the water. The Hong Kong China News Agency said the podium was crowded with visitors. About 200 had gathered on one corner, it said. The agency said the podium's pillars suddenly collapsed and the platform began to lean to one side. About a dozen spectators fell into the water. Six suffered minor injuries. The agency did not name the injured. It was not clear if any Hong Kong visitors were involved. Guangdong province has seen a rush of theme parks being opened in recent years. But tour organisers in Hong Kong have warned some of them were poorly built and safety facilities in some could be below standard.
