A Hong Kong Jockey Club voting member and a businessman have been charged with conspiracy to accept a bribe in return for endorsing a membership application.
Abdulla Tyeb Chiba and Ricky Lee Wing-chiu are on ICAC bail and will appear at South Kowloon Court tomorrow.
They are alleged to have conspired with another businessman, Lin Sun-fook, for Chiba to accept an advantage in return for endorsing Liu Sun-ming's application to join the club as a racing member. The offence is said to have taken place in the summer of 1996.
Lee is alleged to have accepted $400,000 from Liu. Of this, Chiba is said to have accepted $150,000 after proposing Liu as a candidate for club membership. Chiba runs the Central-based stock company Tung Tak & Co.
The Independent Commission Against Corruption investigation was launched after complaints from the club, the anti-graft body said.
