Brown was suspended one game, without pay, and fined US$2,500 by the NBA for leaving the bench area to join the fray.
In an incident that evoked memories of a brawl between the Knicks and Heat in last season's Eastern Conference semi-final play-offs, Brown became involved in an incident while not in the game.
The altercation in the second quarter began when the Knicks' Larry Johnson got into a shoving match with Miami's Alonzo Mourning following a flagrant foul by the Heat centre. Johnson was fined US$5,000.
