Ben Folds Five - Naked Baby Photos (Caroline) A strange group, Ben Folds Five. While their peers choose to rock with electrifying riffs and excessive machismo, this posse led by none other than Ben Folds opt to rock through another sound - one dominated by nerdish ramblings to the sound of a clunking piano playing out refreshed melodies. As a follow-up to their acclaimed debut album Whatever and Ever Amen last year - this release serves to introduce the band's earlier works to those who only acknowledged their music post-Whatever. From the beginning, it seems, they already sound like a more youthful Bruce Hornsby. Bypassing already discovered tracks such as Underground and Song for The Dumped, songs to look out for include the pleasant Jackson Cannery, described by Folds as the band's first recording. Ben Folds Five treads a very fine line with their sound, which, if sprinkled with too much 'sincerity', would easily turn them into just another Hootie and the Blowfish. But luckily, they carry the work through by playing with their taste of juvenile bravado. Witness the six-minute jam of For Those of Ya'll Who Wear Fannie Packs and understand why.
