Jessey Meng is currently doing the model-turned-actress thing. But it is not just any movie that she is starring in. For her first foray on to celluloid, she plays Richard Gere's love interest in the much talked-about movie Red Corner.
Jessey's character is sent by her boyfriend to seduce Gere with a view to murdering him, but as it happens, she ends up falling in love.
As most of her scenes involve being naked in bed with Gere, it is not surprising that Jessey felt a little apprehensive.
'Maybe in Hollywood being filmed nude isn't a big deal, but I'm Asian and it was a big deal for me,' says Taiwanese-born Jessey.
However, after several discussions with Gere and the director, Jon Avenet, they agreed to use clever camera angles and lighting so nothing is really revealed and Jessey's modesty is intact.
'There wasn't any need to say much as Richard uses his body language and I felt relaxed and comfortable filming the scenes with him.' But it wasn't all smooth sailing as Jessey's boyfriend was on the set most of the time and felt a little jealous. Jessey told me that Richard, who 'is such a gentleman and who was so nice and patient with me' took her boyfriend out for a drink to explain there was nothing to it - it was just two actors doing a job and that it was all 'very technical'.
