I wonder if it is necessary to get a visa to France once you are in any other European Union country.

 I have just returned from Paris, having travelled there from London by Eurostar.

 When I entered France and when I left it, I was not asked to show my visa.

 It had cost me time and money ($210) to get this visa and it turned out to be a pointless exercise. The French Consulate knew that I was travelling to France by train from the UK, so why did it demand that I get a visa if I did not need it?  I think I am entitled to an explanation.

Useless visa
