An underground lottery was forced to halve its payouts this week after a controversial monk was said to have again predicted several winning numbers.
One lottery organiser claims to have lost 50 million baht (HK$8.5 million) after thousands of people chose numbers tipped by the Phra Khru Sangkharak.
Wide-eyed punters said it was the 11th time in a row the monk had picked key numbers in the bi-monthly national lottery.
The Education Ministry, which supervises religious affairs, is investigating whether the monk is making money from vice.
He denies using his talents for punters' benefit, saying people interpret the shapes made by hot wax he drops in holy water.
But the Supreme Sangha Council has reminded him monks found trying to pick lottery winners can be defrocked.
