Informatics was founded in 1983 on the recognition that Asia's economic growth would foster tremendous demand for information technology skilled manpower to sustain and carry forward the rapid economic growth in the region. Its focus on training and education naturally led to the establishment of Thames College to provide business and management programmes for business professionals. Informatics Group offers certificate, diploma and advanced diploma level programmes in business administration, marketing, administrative management and secretarial practices through Thames College. Thames programmes are conducted through collaborations with international universities to ensure course quality. Recognising the need for quality programmes in distance education, Informatics Resources (HK) Ltd, Informatics Open Institute and Thames Open Institute were established to manage distance learning programmes leading to bachelor's and master's degrees in business, management and liberal arts from universities in the US, Britain and Australia. Distance education allows students to stay with their families and continue with their careers.
