Three men from a 'bogus' travel company tricked job seekers into giving them money by promising to make them gigolos for female tourists, a court heard yesterday.
Jumbo Holidays manager Dennis Chou Ying-wai, 29, waiter Chan Kwok-yee, 33, and transport worker Paul Yeung Yau-ho, 21, faced a joint charge of conspiracy to defraud between July 1996 and September 5 last year.
The prosecutor told the Eastern Court the trio misled men applying to work for Jumbo Holidays by promising to arrange that they be paid to have sex with women visiting Hong Kong. The court heard the would-be gigolos were told they would get $6,400 each time they had sex, but they had to pay a $3,200 fee before clients would be introduced to them.
Chou, Chan and Yeung were arrested by Independent Commission Against Corruption officers after some of the men who had paid the fee complained no work had been arranged for them.
The ICAC found nothing to substantiate claims the firm operated under police protection.
Chou also faced a charge of possessing an ID card belonging to another person.
