Lorraine Hahn set for a CNNI comeback to set the pulse racing?
Is salvation looming for Lorraine Hahn fans starved of her presence on the TV since CNBC's first incarnation bit the dust this month? The fragrant Hahn has attracted a cult following among red-blooded males from the time she first appeared on the small screen anchoring TVB Pearl's business news in the late 1980s. Her apogee came when she joined CNBC as a presenter in 1995.
Delighted addicts could see her face daily not only on TV, but also plastered across bus shelters and in regional magazines as part of a marketing campaign for the channel.
Unfortunately for the fans, she disappeared when CNBC merged with ABN to create a new incarnation of CNBC earlier this month. Unlike fellow anchor Rico Hizon, Hahn did not up sticks and move to Singapore, causing some surprise among observers who regarded her as a known 'face' among Asian viewers.
It seems the reason Hahn stayed in Hong Kong is because she is a front runner for an on-screen role with a daily Asian financial news programme CNN International (CNNI) is said to be launching from Hong Kong by mid-year. Rumours that she is set for a return to TV could be enough to send the Hang Seng Index soaring.
But if Hahn is strongly fancied for a return to the tube, it is not possible to work out the whereabouts of another familiar TV face, former MTV VJ Danny McGill.
The American was one of the original team of VJs when MTV launched on Star TV in 1991. McGill left the channel and Hong Kong with ambitions to become a rock star in Los Angeles before making Singapore his base.
