The stars came out under a gloomy sky as they bade farewell to the co-founder of the Golden Harvest movie studio, Leonard Ho Kwong-cheong, yesterday.

Actor Jackie Chan Kwong-sang and singer Anita Mui Yim-fong, whom Ho had taken as his son and daughter, joined about 400 mourners paying their last respects at the Hong Kong Funeral Home in North Point.

The movie mogul died of a heart attack on February 16, aged 72.

Long-time business partner Raymond Chow Ting-hsing arrived at the funeral hall with his wife early in the morning and was among the last to leave.

Mr Chow paid a moving tribute to his friend by quoting, on the funeral leaflet, Socrates' musings on death.

A gold theatre stage was set up in the hall, with the late company president's portrait at the centre of a sea of wreaths.
