NEC has unveiled the UltraLite Versa, a modular i486SL notebook series capable of being customised by users through plug-in peripherals such as colour screens, additional batteries and, in the future, even pen computing.
Mr Perry Chan, marketing manager of NEC Hongkong, said the UltraLite Versa was the first notebook computer to allow users to choose, then alter, specific configurations as their computering needs changed.
No tools are required for users to modify or upgrade their notebooks, as the system accepts simple, plug and play components and peripherals.
The 486SL processor comes with either monochrome or active-matrix; four, eight, 12 or 20 Megabytes (Mb) of memory; and 80, 120 180 Mb or larger hard disks.
