THE Hongkong Stadium constructors have installed more seats than even they expected.
What was expected to be a partially-built 33,000-seater stadium has now become a 39,000-capacity arena due to the speed of work by builders Dragages.
Dragages yesterday handed over the stadium to the Urban Council for the Hongkong Sevens and two Viceroy Cup matches.
And it if were not for regulations regarding the washrooms, there would have been the possibility of an extra 6,000 tickets for the rugby extravaganza.
Chris Holmes, public relations manager for the constructors, explained: ''Because of the ratio of functioning toilets to capacity, only 33,000 people will be allowed in.'' ''But the fact that 39,000 seats have already been completed shows how well the construction has gone. The builders have surprised even themselves.''
