A senior official hopes the Beijing Municipal Government will supply land for the SAR government office in the capital. Secretary for Constitutional Affairs Michael Suen Ming-yeung said yesterday after meeting Xu Ze of the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office that the new base would be set up at the end of the year. Help would be sought from the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office in identifying a site and recruiting some staff. Mr Suen hoped the municipal government could help with a site in the long term, but in the meantime space would be rented. The Beijing office would have about 40 Hong Kong and local staff. Mr Suen said it was too early to say who would be sent from Hong Kong.
