Oscar looks a cracking good bet with which to start the weekend in the fifth event at Taipa this afternoon writes Lawrence Wadey.

With tomorrow's Hong Kong Derby looming large, 12 races in Macau afford the opportunity to top up the betting banks and first-season import Oscar looks a different class to his opposition.

Former champion trainer Wing Leung has his horses in peak condition and jockey Jesus Castanon should be able to make all from barrier two.

In the sixth, the George Williams-trained Splendid Dragon put up a huge performance when only just failing to concede 26 pounds to Derby favourite Cheerine Champion last time and is hard to oppose in the race, which sees the reappearance of the brilliant French rider William Mongil.

Mongil was banned for six months by the Macau stipendiary stewards after a dreadful display on Hay Wick last season but he's served his time and is once again set to partner a stack of winners.
