Two junior prison reception guards were attacked at the end of their shift at Lai Chi Kok Detention Centre last night. The guards were ambushed by six men 50 metres from the entrance to the maximum-security facility and sparked a police search of Chungking Mansions in Tsim Sha Tsui, where a getaway car was found. Neither of the two Correctional Services Department (CSD) officers, surnamed Wong, 25, and Cheung, 21, were seriously hurt. CSD spokesman Leonel Rodrigues said one of the officers had recognised two of the attackers as former inmates of Lai Chi Kok. The gang jumped out of a car parked on the junction of Butterfly Valley Road and Cheung Sha Wan Road and launched the attack. Two men, aged 17 and 22, were arrested in Chungking Mansions.
