Economy tops list of Guangzhou concerns
A major concern of Guangzhou residents regarding the NPC and CPPCC meetings is discussions on economic development, according to a poll.
Carried out by a Guangzhou marketing research company and sponsored by a Guangzhou newspaper, the poll revealed 87.2 per cent of respondents listed it as a primary concern.
National politics came second with 39 per cent indicating a strong interest.
More than 56 per cent of respondents said the social security system was the main concern in economic development.
Other areas of concern were re-employment and unemployment, which troubled 44.3 per cent; inflation, cited by 42 per cent; and the future of state-owned enterprises and government reforms, listed by 33 per cent.
Showing considerable interest in the meetings, 64 per cent said they would follow the discussions, while the same percentage said the meetings would have a significant impact on Guangzhou's economic developments.
