THE Provisional Airport Authority (PAA) has brought out a new, more politically slanted promotional video for Chek Lap Kok airport than its innovative award-winning predecessor.
The first video concentrated essentially on giving viewers an insight into what the new airport will look like and offer, using highly advanced 3D computer modelling.
Its successor seems far more concerned with stressing how Hongkong's economic future depends on the airport's success.
It counters China's argument that Shenzhen Airport, which is being extensively upgraded to cater for international traffic, will be sufficient to cater for Hongkong's growing needs in conjunction with the territory's existing airport at Kai Tak.
The new video was premiered at the Hongkong International Aerospace Forum yesterday.
It opens with the message: ''This airport will bring substantial returns for Hongkong and will ensure continued prosperity well into the next century.'' Viewers are told: ''Kai Tak has been a success. That's why we need to replace it with another airport so that Hongkong can keep on growing and the 350,000 people who live directly under its flight path can at last discover how quiet it can be.'' It stresses how Kai Tak is expected to be operating at capacity next year.
