A nail bomb exploded in a busy Mei Foo Sun Chuen street yesterday, the fourth similar incident in nine days.
No one was hurt in the lunchtime blast at a bus stop outside the Good World restaurant on Kwai Chung Road.
But organised crime officers were last night told to take over the investigation into the series of bomb alerts.
A police spokesman said while earlier incidents in Wan Chai, Tsim Sha Tsui and Tai Mo Shan did not appear to be linked to yesterday's blast, they did not rule out the possibility they were aimed at creating panic.
An anonymous call was made at noon to the Apple Daily newspaper, claiming a bomb had been planted outside the restaurant.
A reporter was sent without alerting police but had not found the bomb when it exploded at 12.30 pm.
