Students at Shau Kei Wan Government Secondary Technical School dressed up to celebrate its 35th open day and the inauguration of a new extension.

  The highlight of the day was a fashion show, with pupils strutting their stuff on the catwalk, wearing their own, often wild creations.

  Compliments flew as the teenagers displayed a fashion selection ranging from casual wear to wedding gowns.

  But the biggest applause was reserved for the entries in the Green Dress Design Competition.

 Students' task was to design a casual outfit using second-hand clothes and environmentally-friendly products.

  Form Five student Chu Wai- Fun took first prize.

  She had skilfully converted her light green school uniform into a cocktail dress.

  Other performances included dancing by the Travel and Tourism Club, and singing from Wu Man-chi, of Form Six, who won this year's female solo section of Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.

  Chairman of the parent-teacher association Leung Ho Chow-sim and principal education officer Lee Sai-kin officially opened the new wing.

 The ribbon was cut by 1968 graduates Lo Chung-hing, Chan Kwan-hung, Yeung Lam-fat, Shum Kung-sher and Ma Siu-ling.

  Following the ceremony, parents and guests were given a guided tour of the school, which had been decorated to suit the festive occasion.

  The theme of the open day was Facing the Challenge of the New Millennium.

  Display boards from different subjects and clubs, imaginatively and decoratively reflected this theme.

  The Home Economics (Dress) entry was named winner of the board design competition.
