JARDINE Pacific has announced it will lease 116,000 square feet at Devon House in Taikoo Place so it can base more of its business units in one location. Built by the company's joint venture Gammon construction, Devon House is a new building which will secure Jardine Pacific's office space requirements for at least nine years. Taikoo Place is the newest business complex to be developed by Swire Properties on the eastern side of Hongkong Island. It comprises Cornwall House, Somerset House and Warwick House, as well as two new developments: Devon House (75 per cent leased); and the twin-tower Dorset House and Hongkong Telecom Tower project, scheduled for completion in 1994. Jardine Pacific already has several of its businesses in Taikoo Place, including Jardine System Products, Jardine Schindler and Gammon. Together with this new lease, the total floor area being taken by Jardine Pacific is about 350,000 sq ft. The company will relocate its business from the World Trade Centre, and two shipping operations in Jardine House, to Devon House. Jardine Industrial Supplies will also be relocated from its existing offices in Sing Pao Building. Jardine Pacific Director Ms Eleanor Ling said Devon House was selected because it was a modern, first-class building in a convenient location and offered satisfactory lease terms. It also provided an opportunity to consolidate many of Jardine Pacific's diverse businesses in Taikoo Place. , which will also have space for expansion in the future. ''The quality of Devon House is a major attraction. We get a new, first class office building, with efficient building services and amenities. Well-served by the MTR, local road networks and close to the Eastern Harbour Crossing, Devon House should be popular with our employees.''
