BRITISH Lions captain Gavin Hastings yesterday backed the selectors' controversial decision to include 16 Englishmen in the forthcoming tour to New Zealand.

 ''The experience of the English players will be vitally important. There is no harder school of rugby than New Zealand and the English players will be very keen to take their experience to New Zealand,'' the 31-year-old Scottish full-back said.
