With the coming of a new democratic age in Hong Kong, there is a piece of legislation that needs updating.

Currently, any identity card holder who can speak English may be selected for jury service in Hong Kong. There is no link to residency. However, if one wishes to vote, you may only do so if you have lived in Hong Kong for a minimum of seven years.

I am one of the lucky people to be selected for jury service, even though I cannot vote and may be deported, if the Government wishes.

In 1776 the American colonists declared independence from Britain, one of their gripes being 'no taxation without representation'.

I am strongly tempted to declare immunity from jury service on the grounds of 'no jury service without representation'.
