Liberal Party chairman Allen Lee Peng-fei hit back at criticism his party was taking credit for a popular Budget. 'What's wrong with a political party working for its electorate?' he said. 'Commentators who said the party was simply seeking votes are ignorant about the essence of democratic politics.' He had said the surplus was trimmed from more than $30 billion to $10.7 billion through the lobbying of Executive Council convenor Chung Sze-yuen. Mr Chung's intervention was requested by the party, Mr Lee said yesterday.
