I WONDER if the Transport Department is considering retaining the present temporary, single lane, one-way system in Stanley now that the present roadworks are approaching completion.

I can see at least three advantages in doing so.

Traffic entering Stanley via Beach Road, and leaving via Village Road, removes the bottleneck in the centre of the village caused by converging traffic.

The use of a single lane would allow on-street parking, on the majority of both Beach and Village Roads.

The use of parking meters could generate considerable revenue, part of which could be used to keep the beaches and streets clean, thus attracting more visitors and more revenue.

By keeping the traffic flowing and the pavements clear of parked vehicles, I would be able to venture out on Sundays and public holidays, without queueing for hours to get in and out of Stanley, or risking my life walking on the roads because the pavements are full with illegally-parked cars.
