The United States led sharp international criticism yesterday of the brutal cross-border attack against defenceless refugees by Burmese troops.
But Burma's military Government angrily denied the accusations.
Scores of raiders shot up and torched the Huay Kalok bamboo refugee camp early on Wednesday morning, leaving four ethnic Karen refugees dead and 40 injured, some seriously.
It was the most brutal attack on a refugee camp in recent memory; much bloodier than a similar series of incursions a year ago.
The marauding troops, many speaking Burmese, warned the refugees they would return with guns blazing if they did not return home quickly.
They reportedly said they would next attack the camps of Nu Bo, where there are 10,000 refugees, and Mae La, where another 14,000 are housed.
