A PLAYBOY being retried in the High Court for the murder of his air hostess girlfriend denied that his relationship with his co-accused was one of master and servant in that she would do anything for him.

  Patrick David Wong also denied a suggestion that co-accused Kitty Yu Mo-ling stole, cheated and got money for him because she loved him.

  But he revealed he was intimate with Yu and the dead woman, Ms Brenda Wong Tze-kwan, at the same time.

  He also accepted before Mr Justice Duffy and a High Court jury that he had affairs with other women, and that he had recently remarried while in prison.

  Wong rejected suggestions that when anything went wrong in his life he always blamed others.

  ''I realised that I had all these troubles because of the women who became involved with me,'' he said.

  During cross-examination by Senior Crown Counsel Mr Chris Coghlan appearing with Mr Philip Ross, he denied he wanted Yu and Ms Wong so he could ''milk them dry'' to support his cocaine habit.

  Wong, who was unemployed but drove expensive sports cars and had an expensive cocaine habit, said he made his money gambling on horses.

  He denied a prosecution suggestion that when he was arrested in May 1989, he was broke. He reiterated he was not using Ms Wong to get money out of her and did not draw money from her bank account.

  He claimed that a line in her last letter to him saying, ''I will not be pressing you to return what you owe me'', was not a reference to a financial debt but an emotional debt.

  Wong, 36, and Yu, 30, are being retried for the murder of Ms Wong, who was a senior purser with Cathay Pacific. The court heard she left her flat about 5 am on May 6, 1989, after a telephone call and was not seen alive again.

  The Crown said her body was found in an aluminium trunk in Wong's flat wrapped in plastic food film into which caustic soda was poured. It is alleged there was a love triangle.

  Wong disagreed that once Yu had made an affirmation in October 1991 stating he had nothing to do with the case, he decided he had no use for her.

  Questioned by Yu's counsel, Mr John Mullick, Wong, an American citizen, denied he promised Yu that if she took the blame for disposing of Ms Wong's body he would try through the United States Consulate to get her released from prison after his own release.

  When it was put to Wong that Yu made the affirmation because she loved him and would do anything for him, he replied: ''I do not agree''.

  Asked by Mr Mullick if Yu had made the affirmation of her own volition, Wong said he did not know.

  Asked if the affirmation was made without any prompting from him, he replied ''correct''.

  In the affirmation, Yu said she hid Ms Wong's body without Wong's knowledge and thought over the next few days how to destroy it and that she had acted by herself.

  Asked what Yu's weight was, Wong said he did not know but Yu was bigger than the dead woman.

  He denied telling Yu she should take full responsibility for disposing of the body. He also denied that Yu, under his direction, put the body in an aluminium trunk and bought various chemicals to destroy it.

  Questioned about a suicide attempt by Yu, Wong disagreed it was because of the way he treated her. But he accepted that during the time he knew Yu, he had also maintained contact with other women including Ms Wong.

  Regarding his relationship with Yu, he disagreed he was domineering, adding that Yu owed him a lot of money. He said that when Yu was working at the racecourse, she gave him misleading tips and made him lose between $700,000 and $800,000.

     He was engaged to Ms Wong but no wedding date had been set, he said.

  The prosecution disputed the pair had ever been engaged.
