The Hong Kong Tourist Association (HKTA) greatly appreciates Willy Lo Kai-yan's interest in measures to encourage more visitors to Hong Kong (South China Morning Post, February 24).
In fact, virtually all his suggestions either have long been adopted by the HKTA or are being pursued where practical. We work closely with relevant government departments and the municipal councils to preserve and promote all things traditional and cultural.
That includes old transport modes, areas such as Stanley and Sai Kung, and temples and old villages.
If Mr Lo cares to visit the HKTA's outlets at Star Ferry Tsim Sha Tsui or the basement of Jardine House, he will find a wide selection of maps and guides covering all aspects of Hong Kong. We have suggested opening up Government House as a museum and made a number of suggestions on possible future use of the vacated Kai Tak.
Measures have been taken to address the treatment of Japanese visitors and the police take regular action against errant taxi drivers.
The HKTA will soon launch a 'Be a Good Host' campaign in Hong Kong and a new international marketing campaign to rejuvenate tourism to Hong Kong.
