Setting up back offices in Macau was the latest way for Hong Kong companies to reduce operating costs, Macau-based bank Delta Asia Financial Group chairman Stanley Au Chong-kit said.
He said an increasing number of companies were seeking to relocate non-essential operations to the enclave, citing the paging arm of Hutchison Whampoa as an example.
'At least four to five paging services companies have sought advice from us on the feasibility of moving to Macau since Hutchison's relocation last year.
'This is the best way to stay competitive,' Mr Au said.
He said Macau-based back offices allowed companies to maintain full services in Hong Kong but access much lower costs on office rents and salaries.
Delta Asia provides relocation services including financing and managing investments in Macau, he said.
