First it was Hong Kong money flooding the British property market. Now, if one leading estate agent has his way, SAR-style building methods may be on the way.
Britain should adopt Hong Kong methods whereby residential developments could be replaced every 20 or 30 years, John Brown, director of property consultants DTZ Debenham Thorpe, said.
In Hong Kong, an apartment block may be demolished after only 20 or 30 years to make way for a bigger building.
Britain should adopt a similar approach in response to changing buyer demand, Mr Brown, a former town planner, said.
Many British post-war residential buildings became outdated within about 20 years because of their design and the poor quality materials that were used.
Today, many developers concentrated on two-bedroom flats which were favoured by overseas investors in London, newlyweds, other first time buyers and divorcees.
These flats were selling three times faster than other properties at some developments.
