It is with disturbing regularity that we read letters to both English papers referring to some negative image of non-Hong Kong people. But, 'Stop spongers' (South China Morning Post, March 17) must be one of the most blatantly bigoted letters yet to be printed. The most disturbing aspect of this letter, which bodes badly for the future, is the age of the writers (Form Six). Surely it is a sad indictment of both the parents and the teachers, in their failure to educate these young minds to be more understanding towards new immigrants to Hong Kong. What can the future of Hong Kong be if today youths have no tolerance to people of other backgrounds and race? Surely Hong Kong's future leaders must have more substance than this sad letter implies.
