A. de O. Sales, who this evening will relinquish his post of president of the Amateur Sports Federation and Olympic Committee (ASF & OC), will become a honorary life president of the body.
Sales will step down at today's annual general meeting (AGM) of the governing body of Hong Kong's sports associations, paving the way for Timothy Fok - the only person who has been nominated for the elected position.
'Fok's ascension will be a formality. Nothing untoward will happen,' said ASF & OC vice-president Con Conway, yesterday.
Conway will also propose that Sales become the first life president of the ASF & OC. This, too, is expected to be passed as a mere formality in recognition of the more than 40 years of service Sales gave to Hong Kong sport.
Sports Post interviewed both Fok and Sales (see Page 26) about their views on the state of play in the SAR.
On the key issue of local sport's future with regard to China, both officials said Hong Kong should remain an independent body on the international scene and have pledged to guarantee its separate identity.
