A TOTAL of $3.79 million would be spent to educate the public about the harmful effects of smoking, the Secretary for Health and Welfare, Mrs Elizabeth Wong Chien Chi-lien, told legislator Mr Howard Young.

Last year, the Government spent $2.81 million on anti-smoking publicity.

Mrs Wong said emphasis would be placed on messages to young people to discourage them from smoking.
