Officer on perjury charges
A police constable faced court yesterday accused of giving false evidence in a drug-trafficking case.
Lee Wah-keung, 26, appeared in Eastern Court on two charges of perjury. He is accused of giving two false statements under oath in the District Court between November 4 and 6 last year.
Lee was a prosecution witness in the trial of hawker Lam Wai-ho, 31, on drugs charges. Lam was acquitted of trafficking in heroin.
Lee's lawyer, Dickson Li Shu-pui, submitted a Hospital Authority medical report saying his client might not be fit to enter a plea.
Mr Li urged magistrate Garry Tallentire to adjourn the case so psychiatric reports could be obtained.
Lee joined the force in March 1990 and was attached to the Special Duties Squad, Mongkok, until Friday, when he was charged and suspended from duty.
