More than 10 Taiwanese flags were flying last night on a government-preserved building in Tuen Mun.

Although it is illegal to fly the flags, Secretary for Home Affairs David Lan Hung-tsung said the building - Red House - was a 'private premises' and the ban did not apply.

On October 10 last year, police tore down Taiwanese flags displayed in Causeway Bay to mark Taiwanese National Day.

Tung Chee-hwa said the hoisting of the flags violated the 'one country' principle.

The flags were raised at Red House to commemorate the 87th anniversary of a military uprising in Guangzhou.

Taiwan's envoys in Hong Kong, Cheng An-kuo and Susie Chiang, attended the event.
