A suspected illegal immigrant burglar was caught early yesterday in the garden of a Mid-Levels house said to jinxed.
'It's bad luck for the thief. We were lucky to find him before he could get in,' said banker Peter Mallinson, 38, who lives in the 8,000-square-foot house at 1 Chatham Path.
Mr Mallinson, his picture restorer wife, Elisabetta Marzetti Mallinson, 36, and two sons, aged two and five, were asleep when the 26-year-old suspect was caught at about 1.15 am.
A Gurkha guard caught the man in the garden of the three-storey house after the alarm went off.
'We did not tie him up. He was very quiet. My guard just looked at him,' Mr Mallinson said.
The house, built in the 1920s, has a reputation for bad luck and was empty for nearly a year before the Mallinsons arrived in 1995.
