Up-and-coming Kong Yan-kay (pictured) became the second swimmer to win the adidas/Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) Junior Star of the Month Award for February. The award came after her medal-winning performance at the South Africa National Junior Championships. The 13-year-old swimmer, who is also the youngest among the six contenders, clinched two gold medals in the girls' 50 metres freestyle and 100 m butterfly respectively. She came second in the 200 m freestyle in Johannesburg. Another swimmer, Tsai Hiu-wai, was selected the winner for January. 'I could hardly believe it when the institute told me about the selection results,' said the youngster. 'I knew I had a chance to win but I'm really happy now that it's a reality.' Yan-kay added that winning the title for February was special as she could follow the success of Hiu-wai. 'Hiu-wai is my role model and I want to be as successful as her in both local and international competitions. Winning the junior title could be the first step.' Nominated by the Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association, the prize includes a trophy, $2,500 and adidas products worth $2,500.
