LEGISLATIVE Councillors have attacked the Government over its piecemeal approach in tackling the territory's housing problem.
Legislator Mr Frederick Fung Kin-kee, for the Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood, said he was disappointed that Financial Secretary Mr Hamish Macleod had only planned to solve the sandwich class housing problem in his second budget, without taking steps to improve the overall housing strategy.
He hoped the Government would devote more attention to the needs of caged men and the tens of thousands of people waiting to move on to public housing estates.
United Democrats legislator Dr Huang Chen-ya said the land supply should be increased to solve the housing problems of the sandwich class in the long run. He said a capital gains tax should be introduced to curb flat speculation.
