Talk show hosts Albert Cheng King-hon and Peter Lam Yuk-wah received 23 and 36 votes respectively despite asking performing arts voters not to support them. The pair were defeated with Chu Yan Yan, a producer who scored 31 votes. Cheng and Lam have been criticised for joining an election they did not approve of. The pair had branded the poll a 'small circle election'. Ousted legislator Emily Lau Wai-hing said they had undermined their credibility as talk show hosts. Cheng and Lam dismissed the criticism, but decided to 'withdraw' after 43 per cent of the 300 Commercial Radio listeners who wrote to them voiced disapproval of their decision to take part. Because there was no provision for candidates to pull out after nominations closed, the pair could only write to subsector voters to ask them not to give their support.
