Chin, the rider declared for Happy Going, as the latter sustained an injury during an official barrier trial on 3.4.98. Speedstar (B. Doyle) and Consistent Win (G. Boss) came together jumping out. D. Whyte (Classic Jester) was fined $4,000 for breaching the Marker Pole Instruction, this being his second offence this season.Passing the Marker Pole, Speedstar shifted out, bumping Consistent Win which in turn bumped Jharna (W. Woods). Approaching the 800 Metres, On The Job steadied between Centre Court (B. Marcus) and Just Perfect (E. Legrix). At the 700 metres, Auto-Matching (K.H.Ting) steadied behind and between Duet Danseurs (F. Coetzee) and Just Perfect. At the top of the Rock, Consistent Win ducked in, causing Jharna to ease. The veterinary surgeon reported that Belarus (D. Nikolic) was lame off hind. It was subsequently discovered that he had fractured his pelvis and was humanely destroyed. Forever Prosperous (R. Fradd) and On The Job were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. Race Three Shortly after the start, City Warrior (D. Whyte) and Lik Rambo (G. Boss) brushed. On the Stable Bend, Super Goal (F. Coetzee) steadied on the inside of Charming Guest (apprentice K.H. Yu) which in turn caused Kiwi Star (D. Nikolic) racing in behind to steady. Shortly afterwards, Sir Galway (apprentice W.Y. Kan) shifted in, taking Po On Power (apprentice W.M. Lai) onto Best One (B. Doyle) onto Charming Guest, causing Super Goal to check which in turn caused Kiwi Star racing in behind to steady again. Approaching the 1200 metres, apprentice W.S. Yu (Glamorous Palace) lost her off side stirrup iron, placing her at a disadvantage thereafter. The stewards enquired into the disappointing run of City Warrior. Jockey D. Whyte stated that the gelding was beautifully placed, however he did not handle the track conditions very well and was a tired horse at the 400 metres. He added that the gelding was under pressure all the time which he thought did not suit him as he likes to settle and stride along in his own time. Tse) jumped outwards, tightening Supreme Goliath (A. Munro). This incident caused The Oscars (B. Doyle) to move away, taking Pinky Long Legs (B. Marcus) and Fastest Star (apprentice K.W. Lee) out. Debonair (apprentice S.K. Sit) jumped outwards. C.K. Tse was suspended from riding in races on Wednesday, 8 April 1998 for breaching the Marker Pole Instruction. The stewards called before them apprentice S.K. Sit, his allocated trainer, T.W. Leung, and D. Nikolic (Laser Star) regarding a possible breach of the Marker Pole Instruction by these two riders. Having reviewed the video tapes of the race, the stewards accepted apprentice S.K Sit's explanation that he moved in away from Adeewin approaching the Marker Pole. They drew D. Nikolic's attention to the Marker Pole Instruction. The veterinary surgeon reported that The Oscars had sustained a wound to his off fore lateral heel. Danzighill (W. Woods) and Adeewin were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. Race Five Apprentice L.F. Chung was substituted for K.M. Chin, the rider declared for Look Who's Angel. Citispeed (apprentice C.K. Tsang) jumped outwards and hung out in the home straight. At the 600 metres, Charming Dragon (R. Fradd) raced freely. On the home turn, Super Fairway (P. Payne) and Patrician (apprentice W.Y. Kan) hung out. Race Six Eastern Hero (apprentice W.M. Lai) and Golden Bullet (D. Whyte) were slow into stride. Sincerity (B. Marcus) jumped outwards onto Shining Winner (E. Legrix) onto Full Metal Jacket (apprentice P.H. Tse). Apprentice W.S. Yu (Universal Boss), in the presence of her allocated trainer, P.L. Biancone, and K.H. Ting (Dick Ching) were each fined $2,000 for breaching the Marker Pole Instruction. Approaching the winning post the first time, Golden Bullet and Winning Express (B. Doyle) came together. On the Stable Bend, Grand Way (apprentice W.Y. Kan) steadied on the inside of Universal Boss, Grand Way clipping heels. This incident caused Picador (W. Woods), Golden Bullet and Winning Express to be taken wide. Passing the 1,200 metres, Universal Boss shifted out, taking The Conqueror (E. Saint-Martin) out. Approaching the 400 metres, Universal Boss steadied on the inside of Golden Bullet. Approaching the 200 metres, The Conqueror and Universal Boss brushed. Shortly afterwards, apprentice W.S. Yu dropped her whip. Inside the final 100 metres, Golden Bullet hung in. The veterinary surgeon reported that Picador was lame near fore. Picador will be required to pass an official barrier trial, followed by a veterinary exam. Race Seven F. Coetzee was substituted for K.M. Chin, the rider declared for Lucky Guest. When being loaded, Hero's Choice (B. Marcus) hit the side of his stall, unseating his rider who then remounted. The gelding jumped outwards onto Walk Big (apprentice K.S. Yu) which in turn caused Lucky Afleet (C.K. Tse) to steady. Canadian Champ (D. Whyte) was slowly away. On the home turn, Snip Pour Roi (A. Munro) hung out. At the 300 metres, Lucky Guest was accidentally hit on the head by A. Munro's whip. Passing the 200 metres, Snip Pour Roi shifted in, causing Lucky Guest to steady and switch out for a run. Approaching the line, Lucky Guest shifted in from the left hand whip, taking Snip Pour Roi in. The veterinary surgeon reported that Walk Big had sustained a wound to his near hind cannon. Hero's Choice was sent for clinical veterinary examination. Race Eight Mr Brinker (D. Whyte) and Tremendous Way (apprentice W.Y. Kan) were slowly away. Fantastic (R. Fradd) and Premiership (B. Marcus) came together jumping out. Coming off the Rock the first time, Fantastic steadied behind Word From Rome's (G. Boss) heels. On the Stable Bend, Fantastic steadied on the inside of Seasons Wind (P. Payne) and shifted out. This incident caused Treasure Spring (A. Munro) and Good Connection (F. Coetzee) to move out. Approaching the 300 metres, Plenty Success (E. Saint-Martin) was momentarily held for a run behind and between Highland Dancer (E. Legrix) and Treasure Spring. Seasons Wind was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. General The veterinary surgeon reported that Light And Bright was lame near fore and that Second To None (1.4.98) was lame off fore. Light And Bright and Second To None will both be required to pass an official barrier trial, followed by a veterinary examination. Subsequent clinical veterinary examinations of Go Go, Red Commander, Craig's Pride, So Great, Fortune Tycoon, Smart Dancer, Redrideninetyseven, Active Luck And Furioso (1.4.98) proved negative.
